Lord Of The Street- Steve Winwood
Some nice B-3 and piano, it's a cool song off of "Junction Seven" CD recently re-released and includes mostly some of Steve's soulful songs. This one makes me want to play my Hammond and jam awhile. Crank it up-it's the song for the day.
Rock Witch'Ya- Bobby Brown
One of my favorites off of "Don't Be Cruel" CD. A slower soul tune to dance and hold your love. It hit's my mood and is the song for the day. Crank it up and enjoy.
Dirty Dishes- Scotty McCreery
From his debut CD "Clear As Day" which I really like all songs, this one (along with others), rang a bell with me. I can actually hear my Mom saying some of those things to me and I only wish I could sing like the young fellow from Garner, NC. No.1 on iTunes, and sold out at WalMart you can order it here from Amazon just by clicking the link. To me, it's refreshing old-new country music. Crank it up and enjoy, it's the song for today.
Why You Givin Up- Pat Simmons
Recorded after the Doobie Brothers first breakup, this one includes the following Doobies, Pat, Skunk, Michael and Cornelius, which is really a Doobie Brothers song. The words and chord progression make this for a song worth a listening to. Another one of my favorites and it's the song for the day.
B'Cos- Don Airey
Releasd Aug.2011, it's a great instrumental from Deep Purple's keyboardist on his latest solo project. A busy dude, Don has a knack for surronding himself with talented musicians in the studio. The laid-back guitar-driven "B’Cos" has some amazing licks by Rob Harris (prestigious fusion musician and ocassional Jamiroquai colaborator) and nice keys and harmonization. It is truly laid back rock and worth a crank it up. From his new CD "All Out". Enjoy, it's the song for the day.
Happy Anniversary- The Hunt Brothers
Hard to find a song with some soul when it comes to Anniversary songs. This one is from 2003, and the Hunt Brothers put you in the groove. Check it out and Happy Anniversary.
Don'T- Elvis Presley
My Mom's favorite song-she wore out 3 records, bought another which I still have. Other than his Gospel recordings which Mom liked the most, this one brings back memories of Mom and Dad slow dancing in our home in Burlington, NC. I'm a tad late in posting in honor of the King. But this is a classic. Thanks for listening.
For The Love Of You-The Isley Brothers

We Don't Need It- Keb Mo
His new release, after almost 2 years in the making, the blues man's new CD is frankly his best. It also features Dave Koz and Vince Gill. Keb Mo's style of blues edges on funk, pure blues, pop, and much more. Due to the economic times, I chose this track as the song for the day. Great words-crank it up and enjoy. This CD that should please all. Order it directly from Amazon by clicking the link.
Summertimes Calling Me- The Catalinas
Yet another NC band that captured Beach Music and sounds as good today or better than most music. Crank it up, shag dance and enjoy. It's the song for the day.
Mr. Pitiful-Otis Redding
This one is for my Dad that always danced to this song, and the Sensation Brothers that was a soul band that played at many places, and the only white band that did the Aloha Club in Chapel Hill. The band was Bobby Peeler on bass and lead vocals, Huffy Huffines on guitar, David Sharpe on sax, Skeeter Daniels on drums and me on the Hammond. A song for the ages-crank it up and enjoy!
Sic Em On A Chicken-Zac Brown Band
What a fun song. From "the Foudation" cd, great for a break from the heat and a little country on a nice day here in Staunton. Slightly explicit, so a warning for a couple of adjectives added that some folks will not the kids to hear. Still, it's a fun one for the summertime. Crank it up and enjoy. It's the song for the day.
Eyes Of Blue-Paul Carrack
From the "Satisfy My Soul", "Different Hat" CD's, it's a bonus track from iTunes on "Satisfy" and from several Amazon CD's. With a simple piano, Paul sings this ballad with heartfelt emotion and has been one of my favorites since purchased several years back. It's so hot and humid today outside, thought this has a calming affect. Just sit back, relax crank it up, and enjoy a beautiful song.
Daughters-John Mayer
Have always loved this song. In view of a juries decision to find not guilty to a "Mother", This is the song of the day. Perhaps a lesson to learn in the lyrics.
Birthday- The Beatles
Several Birthdays today, including a little guy that weighs 6.6lbs. A great song and a Happy Birthday to you. It's the song for the day. Crank it up and and have a great day. Plus, The Beatles have always been my favorites, lets get the younger folks involved in the best group of all time.
Leader Of The Band-Dan Fogelberg
The best Father's Day song to me. The words say it all, "his heart was know to none", and he gave a gift to me I know I never can repay. His blood runs through my instrument and his song is in my soul. And papa I never said I love You near enough.." It's the song for the day. Please enjoy this special song.
The Dance-Garth Brooks
Released on his debut album, this has become Garth's signature song. It was written by Tony Arata, a friend of Garth. In the mold of Hall and Oates,"I Can't Go For That", Simply Red's Sunrise is a pleasant song that gets me in the groove. Great song to play on such a beautiful day here in the Valley. Hope you enjoy it. Don't forget to crank it up!

Yes, he's still alive and kicking. A cool tune and worthy of a listen or two or three. I really like this one. It's the song for the day.
How Do You Keep The Music Playing- James Ingram
is a song composed by Michel Legrand, with lyrics by Alan and Marilyn Bergman for the 1982 film Best Friends, where it was introduced by Patti Austin and James Ingram The lyrics are powerful, the music transceding. One of my favorites, and a great song. Hold on to each other, turn it up and slow dance to a classic. This is the song for the day.
Back At One- Brian McKnight
A love song for the ages. It sold over 3 million copies and drew comparisions to the writings of Stevie Wonder. Brian loved James Ingram's vocals and although the comparision is minute, My son listened to this song so many times, he wore the CD out. I will always love this song. Crank it up, it's the song for the day!
When A Woman Loves- R.Kelly
I do not know who created 4 chord progression, and added the minor just after the major, but it sure shaped songs to follow. Must have been in the late 50's or early 60's when the artist discovered the minor and should have placed a patent on it. It changed music forever, created "Beach Music", witness the Tams, Showmen, Tempations-most of their hits are 4 chord progression. The bridge differs, but, that can even be a combination of a modualtion of 4 chords. I don't really like R.Kelley's lifestyle, but do give credit to his,"I Believe I Can Fly", and this one,"When A Woman Loves". Although recorded in 2010, it is a classic example of the 4 chord progression that makes one hold on to another, and has an earlier time feel to it.. Turn it up, and slow dance with your spouse. It's the song for the day.
Don't Give Up-Peter Gabriel
Thanksgiving Day is a time for family and good eating. For many that are without a job, lost their home and have become destitute the day is spent in solitude and loneliness. This song is for those fine families that have lost so much with the bad economy along with my prayers for a better tomorrow. I also hope that your bond as a family is stronger than ever. It's the song for the day. Please enjoy.
I Just Called To Say I love You-Stevie Wonder
Wish I would have done this more often. A great song and perhaps a lesson for us that just don't say it even though we feel it . Classic Stevie.

Great CD with some classic gospel songs. This song is "How Long Has It Been" by the Old Friends Quartet. Get's you thinking and it's the song for the day.
'We Don't Give Up Now"-Ryan Shaw
Love this guy. Retro feel to his music, yet he sums up the current economic situation. Crank it up- It's the song for the day.
AnyWay- Martina McBride
With so many folks out of work and suffering, laid off after 20+ years of work and no hope for the future it brought this song as the song of the day. I pray for a better day for you, and hope this song helps.
Magnifcent And Holy- Israel Houghton
Very impressed with the arrangment. Of course the Hammond and Leslie really helps this one. Simply said, this has great vocals, arranged to perfection and I think I need to become a music director in a church that accepts this kind of music.Just need some help loading the B and Leslie. It's the song of the day. Crank it up and enjoy.

Not a beach group, but this quickly became a shag favorite. Great song for a Friday. By the way, is that Bobby Peeler on bass, David Sharpe on sax and Danny boy on the Hammond?
Myrtle Beach Days- The Fantastic Shakers
I sure wish I was at Myrtle Beach, but for now this will have to do it for me. The Fantastic Shakers are still together and have a website. This is my favorite of all of their songs and sure brings back the memories. I will always love Beach Music and this is the song for today.
Greeny's- New Soul Underground
If you like some soul/acid jazz this mid-week jam will get you going. Of course I really like the sound Luke Miller get's out of the Hammond B-3, but guitarist Jake Eckert and drummer Josh Day rock too. New Soul Underground is a band with many musical influences from New Orleans to California, and should not be compared to the Old Soul In The Basement. Crank it up and jam out for the mid-week song of the day.
In A Moment- The Intrigues
I remember this song from way back in the good ole days when Bands played music at the YMCA in Burlington, NC. Beach Music and Southern Soul was in with the times and of course dancing the shag. I was playing the Hammond with the 5 Sensation Brothers when this song was released and first heard a live band play this one at the Y, the In-Men ltd.. Moose Smith had a B-3 and a Fender Bass Rhodes and Tommy Rogers killed the beat on his drums. This is not an easy beat for most drummers It is memory lane time and this is the song of the day. ENJOY!
"American Ride"- Toby Keith
From the album by the same name this is a satire on America today. If you like honkeytonk, you probably already own this CD. Great tune to start off your weekend. It's the song for the day! Enjoy.
Ryan Shaws New Release "Get Previous"
This dude just relaesed this, and it sounds like late 60's to the early 70's. Born in decades later, his sound is true to the earlier soul music. This one reminds me of Sam and Dave!
Profile week. I have been selected as Elton John.
For all the Elton fans i have selected "The Bridge"
It's Alright- Seal
Reminds me of Carolina Beach music. It;s a born in Carolina thing, but we danced the shag to this kind of music. This is a Seal cover of I think The Impressions did in the mid-60's. Grab your woman and go back to the good ole days with this classic cover. Huey Lewis also did a cover on this.
